Connected, but fractured; alive, but toxic; powerful, but bound. These are
words that can be used to describe the complex relationship between people
and the natural world. Through the medium of photography, bridging
documentary and fine art, my work explores the reality of our environments,
highlighting the element of control that humans have over nature. While
humans do exploit the natural world, our relationship with it is not completely
broken.
Whispers of another landscape can be found within my work. The magic of the
darkroom allowed me to visualise this imagined landscape, bringing it closer
to reality for the viewer. In this landscape, humans and nature coexist in a
sustainable and mutually beneficial relationship. This landscape is not yet real
but is still connected to reality. Each time we take a step to improve our
relationship with nature, the whispers become louder, and we move closer to
this imagined world.
